"The Hawaiian Goddess of the fire in the volcano, the mother of eruptions"
Pele is a ravishing whimsical goddess who resides in the volcano Kilauea on the island of Hawaii.  Pele is the personification of female power , and her rages are beleived to cause the eruptions of Kilauea, and other volcanoes throughout the islands of Hawaii.

Maya first began painting Pele, Goddess of Fire, in 1992.  Maya was living on Oahu, when she first learned of the myth of the Goddess Pele.  She was fascinated, and began to paint her series.  She visited the island of Hawaii, the "Big Island" to learn more about the legend of Pele.  She has been painting Pele ever since, and her paintings now reside across the islands and the mainland.
